Rock Introduction Bank Holiday

This course provides you with a solid foundation in the skills of rock climbing, on both single pitch and multi-pitch crags. It is designed for those with very little or no previous experience of rock climbing. Many of the techniques taught are transferable to an alpine environment, thereby supporting your overall climbing and ability to tackle more challenging routes in the bigger mountains. If, however, you simply wish to get into rock climbing, this weekend course is a great way to start and leads on to our Classic Rock course.

The course is instructed at a ratio of 1:3, which gives us a great deal of flexibility and means that you spend more time on the rock than on an average Introductory course.

The Course covers

• Movement on rock and climbing techniques (e.g. smearing, edging, bridging, chimneying, rock-overs, jamming, crimping)
• Equipment
• Rope handling and knots
• Belay systems
• Use of belay devices (including holding falls)
• Selecting anchors
• Placing and removing protection
• Abseiling
• Crag awareness
• Use of Guidebooks

The course covers all of the techniques described above, and allows you to practice and consolidate your skills on some more challenging climbs if combined with the Classic Rock course.

Experience Required

Introduction to Rock Climbing is designed for those with very little or no previous rock climbing experience.
