Objective
Ski touring in the land of the Berber - the High Atlas of Morocco. A wonderful mix of discovery, fantastic skiing and cultural experience culminating in the ascent of 4,165m Mt. Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Wonderful fresh food, mint tea and ski touring with a mule - not to be missed! This will be guide, Jim Blyth's 4th skiing trip to the High Atlas.
What to expect
Skiing in the Atlas is an adventure and everyone needs to be prepared for the unexpected and the occasional discomfort. Skiing is usually on spring snow with powder on a firm base after fresh snowfall. Fresh snow transforms quickly at these latitudes so it is uncommon to ski crust. We will be staying with a local guide and outfitter, Mohamed, in Imlil and then in basic but comfortable huts. This is a hut to hut tour but with a difference as mules will carry our heavy kit, such as the sleeping bags.
